Extracted by distillation from the wood of this evergreen tree, there are then three extractions made from Camphor - only White Camphor is safe for aromatherapy use as it contains no Safrol (unlike Yellow and Brown Camphor). White Camphor should still, however, be treated with caution and used in moderation.
Camphor is a traditional ingredient of mothballs and these can be made at home by adding 10 drops of White Camphor to a cotton wool ball and placing these in cupboards, drawers, etc. (They should be kept well out of the reach of children and pets.)
To keep other airborne pests at bay, try adding 5 drops of Camphor to a burner or diffuser.
