Thanks to the recent ban on single-use plastic items, including plastic cotton buds, the mentality is slowly shifting away from plastic-made earbuds. Alternatives to cotton buds made of biodegradable materials make their way into our everyday lives for the Planet’s and our own’s delight.
Why bamboo cotton buds?
The eco-cotton buds from Bambaw are the perfect plastic-free alternative thanks to their primary material – rolling drums - bamboo. This renewable “super-hero”, as we like to call it, keeps its unique properties when made into products: rayon, straws, or even bamboo cotton buds.
Strong and splinter-free
The paper cotton buds are prone to soaking up water and bending easily; bamboo cotton buds, on the other hand, are free of these issues because of their natural bamboo sturdiness. Its raw fibre’s structure also allows the bamboo cotton buds to be smooth and splinter-free.
Are cotton buds banned?
Recent measures have been taken to ban the distribution and manufacturing of plastic cotton buds worldwide, but, unfortunately, we should keep seeing them in our circuit for a while.
Plastic-made cotton buds are such a small and ordinary product that it is easy not to think about their impact on the environment. When throwing them away or flushing them down the toilet, the tiny buds make their way into our oceans. The plastic sticks are sadly too often mistaken for food by marine animals, slowly suffocating and killing them.
Still today, cotton buds are the 8th most common piece of plastic pollution found on our beaches. This is why any items used for less than a minute should be biodegradable, reusable, and properly disposed of.
