Are all Pukka teas caffeine free?
All our teas are naturally caffeine free except for those that contain green or black tea or cocoa. Pukka do not use any form of decaffeinated black, green or herbal tea. We like to use plants in their most natural form, and the decaffeination process alters a plant’s natural chemistry. Some decaffeination processes can also utilise various chemical and mechanical procedures that are not in line with Pukka’s organic principles and so for the moment we have left the tea leaves as they come. Green tea and matcha naturally contain caffeine, but also contain a constituent known as L-theanine which can actually help to balance the effects of caffeine in the body.
Can I drink Pukka teas that contain licorice in if I have high blood pressure?
We love licorice at Pukka. Sweetness is just one of the six essential tastes that our Herbsmith Sebastian Pole considers when creating our blends, carefully balancing the benefits of our teas with the best taste experience. Licorice is calming and nourishing, and its silky nature helps soothe your whole system. In many traditional approaches around the world it is also seen as a good harmoniser of other herbs in a mix. Adding licorice to our teas brings out the best of all ingredients so you get the most balanced blend.
After testing our teas (for levels of a constituent known as glycyrrhizin) our experts have determined that most Pukka teas have levels of licorice that are too low to have an impact on blood pressure unless many tea bags are consumed daily on a regular basis. However, teas with the word ‘Licorice’ in their name (Three Licorice, Peppermint and Licorice, and Licorice and Cinnamon) have higher levels. For these we put a high blood pressure warning on them
Why are Pukka teabags wrapped in individual sachets?
We wrap our organic herbal blends in an envelope because we want to lock in the freshness and protect the high essential oil content which gives our teas such a special taste. Individually wrapped envelopes protect the tea bags from air and moisture which degrade the herbs, causing the tea to lose its depth of flavour and herbal effect. The envelope also prevents any cross-contamination of flavour or smell with other nearby foods.
Why have you changed the design of your tea boxes?
Our packaging designs are inspired by the diverse beauty and power of the natural world which is why they are a treasure trove of colour, vibrance and artistry. In Pukka’s 20th year, we want to enhance the beauty and meaning of our distinctive packaging by updating the designs to reflect more of our purpose, helping you understand the purpose, quality, and flavour of the blends so you feel inspired to discover more about yourself. Some of the key packaging changes include:
- New colours and tones have been chosen to enhance how the teas taste and make you feel.
- Our beautiful illustrations have been updated to highlight the magic, beauty and quality of our blends and ingredients.
- On the front of the box, under the blend name, we suggest how the blend can support your wellbeing.
- On the back of the box, we bring the wonderful Pukka story to life and include instructions to help you brew the perfect Pukka cuppa.
- On the base of the box, we have clearer information about our packaging, and we have included
Ingredients
Oat flowering tops (30%), chamomile flower, licorice root, lavender flower (14%), limeflower (10%), tulsi leaf, valerian root (4.9%)
Preparation
As a guideline all our herbal tea blends are designed to be brewed for up to 15 mins depending on your preferred flavour strength.
If using freshly boiled water the herbs infuse fairly quickly (within 5-6 minutes) and steeping for longer will not increase the benefit of the herbs within the tea. Also after this time the flavour may be altered i.e. green teas can become ‘bitter’ if infused for too long. For example, Supreme Matcha Green, we recommend using freshly boiled water and infuse for 3-5minutes.
All our brewing instructions relate to one teabag per standard mug - up to approx. 250ml per teabag.
